Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro hands-on: A souped up Gear Fit with swim tracking

Samsung Gear S4 watch and smart home tech to be unveiled?

Heart rate tracking, Global Positioning System and a rotating control bezel are all still in place.

There's also the new curved Gear Fit 2 Pro which is slightly lighter on features with a slimmer design.

The Samsung Gear Sport inherits the key design feature of the Gear S3 from a year ago, with a rotating bezel surrounding the display.

It also features easily changeable 20mm straps, so can easily transition from the gym to the board room to dinner.

The Gear Fit2 Pro will be available in Q4 2017, most likely with an October release date.

What the Gear Fit 2 Pro really has over dedicated smartwatches, even the Gear Sport, is a much smaller footprint when you're wearing it. It's also water resistant up to 50 meters too, so it can survive a dunk in the bath and a dip in the swimming pool.

Whether you're an early morning lap swimmer at Noosa's main beach, in your school's swim squad, or enjoy a paddle in your local town pool, the new swim training platform, Speed On, is created to improve the swimming experience and get more people swimming, more often. They're now also available in black, grey and pink colour models.

Samsung has partnered with leading galleries and museums such as the LUMAS, Saatchi Art, and Sedition to further enhance The Frame as an art-centric device within the home.

The Gear Sport follows the design cues laid down by the Gear S3 previous year, though it's a little thinner and smaller, with a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display running at a 360 x 360 pixel resolution.

The Gear Fit2 Pro uses the Super AMOLED 1.5-inch display to provide real-time updates and smartphone notifications. You can also use the app to compete with other users and share workouts.

One of our biggest criticisms of the first version was the poor battery life and thankfully things do get a little bit better here. With Gear Sport, users can work to achieve health and wellness goals, and receive nutrition management alerts and activity recommendations even when they are offline. The Samsung Gear Sport is powered by a dual-core chipset clocked at 1GHz, paired with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

Armed with a 200mAh battery, the wearable fitness band comes with connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi and Global Positioning System. It has 5 ATM water resistance with swim tracking, improved heart-rate monitoring, auto activity detection, and support with a bunch of fitness apps, like UA Record, MyFitnessPal, MapMyRun, and Endomondo.

Plus your TV will then show your heart rate while you exercise, which should make it easier to monitor than if you had to keep glancing at your wrist.
