Weather system could turn tropical off Carolinas coast

As of Sunday evening, the forecast track puts coastal communities at the greatest risk for heavy rain and gusty winds.
For Monday, this tropical system will start to move northward, along the Georgia and SC coast through midday. The latest forecast track from the National Hurricane Center indicates a minimal tropical storm with winds of 40 miles per hour as the system passes near or over the region late in the day on Monday.
Tropical Storm Harvey made landfall Friday night between Port Aransas and Port O'Connor, Texas as a category 4 hurricane.
As of 2:00 p.m. EST, an elongated area of low pressure, previously located over northeast Florida, emerged over the western Atlantic. A southward dip in the jet stream across the eastern United States would be responsible for sending this system northeastward. The Hurricane Center may fly a plane out to investigate the area of low pressure later today.
The hurricane center expected the system to merge with a cold front in the next few days. There will be the possibility of some localized flooding in spots.
