Flake: Trump's trade deal withdrawal 'will haunt us for a long time'

It was a clear reference to Flake, who supported efforts to reform federal immigration law and the federal criminal justice system.

Flake also voted for the skinny repeal bill - but Trump has praised Flake's primary challenger Kelli Ward on Twitter. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., sees Trump's criticism of Flake as "an enormous mistake".

During his campaign rally in Phoenix on Tuesday, he criticized Flake again, without naming him, but proceeded to tweet that he is "not a fan of Jeff Flake" the following morning.

Polls suggest his most loyal supporters still strongly support Trump, but also a worsening position for the President in the swing states that were key to his victory and signs that the strength of enthusiasm among GOP voters for his presidency is beginning to wane.

"The only people giving a platform to these hate groups is the media itself and the fake news", he said.

At the start of the speech, Trump looked like he wanted to strike a note of American unity, continuing his attempts to clean up the mess he created when he cast partial blame for a deadly neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville onto people protesting white supremacy.

Last week, Flake penned an op-ed in the New York Times in favor of low-skilled immigration, in direct contradiction to the president's immigration agenda.

Tuman noted, "I'm continuously surprised at his inability to put things aside" to further his agenda.

Democrats havesome factors in their favor going into the 2018 midterm elections. "You don't gratuitously inflict injury, and if you've got grievances, you air them in private".

"Believe me, if we have to close down our government, we're building that wall", Trump said. "They're both big boys".

"They will hold previously scheduled meetings following the August recess to discuss these critical items with members of the congressional leadership and the President's Cabinet".

At times, Trump even seemed to be mocking his own White House team, amid reports that Chief of Staff John Kelly has been trying to rein in his wilder instincts.
