Copenhagen police are searching on land and at sea for 30-year-old freelance journalist Kim Wall.
Early Friday, Danish authorities announced they were looking for the Nautilus in waters off Copenhagen.
The boat left on Thursday evening at around 19 from Refshaleøen, where some of Kim Wall's friends were present to wave goodbye.
'There are no persons in the submarine, dead or alive, ' Jens Moller, head of Copenhagen Police's homicide unit, said at a news conference on Sunday. By Friday afternoon, Madsen had been taken into custody pending manslaughter charges.

Wall, a freelance journalist who has written from China and the USA for the Guardian and the New York Times, and who was writing a feature about the Nautilus and its owner, boarded the submarine on Thursday evening and has not been heard from since. The police in Sweden said they had tried without success to contact her by phone and that her family had not heard from her.
Madsen, an entrepreneur, artist, inventor and aerospace engineer, was rescued by a private boat from the submarine minutes before it sank. It can carry eight people.
