As Mueller's probe has picked up steam, the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month executed a search warrant at the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, Trump's one-time campaign manager. "In addition, given the obvious unlawful deficiencies, this extraordinary invasive tool was employed for it shock value to intimidate Mr Manafort", said Dowd.

"FBI agents executed a search warrant at one of Mr. Manafort's residences", a spokesperson for Manafort said Wednesday.

Also, Jeffrey Yohai, the estranged husband of Manafort's daughter, is being investigated by FBI agents, according to the article. The June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower in New York City was set up to gain potentially damaging political opposition research on Hillary Clinton from the Russian government. Manafort forked over more than "300 relevant documents to Congress", according to Bloomberg.

That's according to a person familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the arrangement had not yet been publicly announced. They included: the Watergate Special Prosecutor's Office, a Senate Select Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. It also reported he was $17 million in debt to a Russian oligarch when he joined Trump's campaign.

In the context of Manafort's home being raided, these tweets can be construed as yet another attempt by Trump to intimidate the officials involved in the investigation into his campaign, and another attempt to interfere with that investigation.

"I haven't given it any thought", Trump said. It's unclear if any of the information Yohai provided has been useful for the investigation of Manafort.

Manafort is a central figure in Mueller's expanding investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential campaign.

United States media reported in early July that Manafort had participated in a meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Veselnitskaya in June 2016. The committee initially called for them to testify publicly, but lawmakers have since said they were negotiating the terms of their appearances.

Donald Trump has said he was surprised by an Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on his former campaign chairman's home, calling the move "pretty tough stuff".

The search is a sign that the investigation into Manafort has broadened, and is the most significant public step investigators have taken since the special counsel, Robert Mueller was appointed in May. He has denied any wrongdoing.

It's possible that Rhona Graff, Trump's long-serving personal secretary, could also face questioning during the Russian Federation investigations, according to ABC News.
