Aston Villa close in on loan deal for Tottenham's Josh Onomah

Last night's rumors that suggested Aston Villa were about to take Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah on loan turned out to be accurate.

The Scottish champions were in pole-position to land the 20-year-old midfielder following his standout performances for England Under-20s this summer.

Citing the young midfielders potential to have a future in Spurs' first team, Pochettino opted against sending Onomah out on loan last January.

Onomah has joined Championship club Villa on a season-long loan deal from Premier League outfit Tottenham in the summer transfer window.

Onomah has made 32 senior appearances for Spurs during his career, including 13 in the Premier League, although all of those have come as a substitute.

But there's more, and it's important if you are a fan of Joshy: at the same time, the club also announced that Onomah has signed a new contract that will keep him a Tottenham player through 2020-21.

Villa manager Steve Bruce wants extra midfield players after Jack Grealish suffered a potentially long-term injury this week.

Onomah told avfc.co.uk: 'I can't wait to get started.

Onomah signed a new Spurs deal tying him to Mauricio Pochettino's side until 2021 ahead of the loan move's completion on Friday and is in contention to feature in his new club's opening match of the season at home to Hull City on Saturday.

The Enfield-born midfielder may have designs on breaking into Pochettino's starting line-up in the future but is now exclusively focusing on helping Aston Villa earn promotion back to England's top-flight.
