EXCLUSIVE: 'Everything The President Wants To Do, McMaster Opposes,' Former NSC Official Says
As for rumors that Trump is considering shifting CIA Director Mike Pompeo to national security adviser and sending McMaster to command USA forces in Afghanistan, Waltz said McMaster would do a great job, but he wants to see him stay in his current position.
That campaign - which may include some top White House officials but has primarily been conducted by nationalist, right-wing organizations and news sites - has sought revenge on McMaster for his ousting of four conservatives from Trump's national security council, as well as for his opposition to simply voiding President Obama's Iran nuclear deal without a back-up plan.
President Trump has made a decision to stand up and defend his national security adviser, H.R. McMaster, amid increasing pressure to get him fired from some members of the commander in chief's electoral base. He is a good man and very pro-Israel.
"Everything the president wants to do, McMaster opposes", a former senior official said in a wide-ranging interview.
In response to "the president's skepticism that winning in Afghanistan was even possible", McMaster also reportedly showed Trump promising photos of the country.
According to Lake, documents showing that Rice made the unmasking requests were uncovered by the NSC's former senior director for intelligence, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, who was sacked by McMaster on Wednesday.
"On Wednesday, radio host Laura Ingraham tweeted a months-old article from the New York Times about McMaster's 'break with the administration on Islam, '" the Weekly Standardexplained. Numerous attacks came from online outlets popular with the far right, including Breitbart, which until last August was run by White House adviser Stephen Bannon.
"McMaster basically has this list and over the next two weeks he's going to phase out" more senior officials loyal to Trump, an unnamed source told the conservative Free Beacon. Alt-right journalist Mike Cernovich has shared links to a site called McMaster Leaks on Twitter, devoted to attacks on the general.
The changes at the NSC come as the White House has seen a number of other high-profile staff changes: chief of staff Reince Priebus resigned last week and was replaced by John Kelly; press secretary Sean Spicer resigned and was replaced by Sarah Sanders; and newly tapped communications director Anthony Scaramucci was forced out after just 11 days on the job.
What's more, allies of McMaster "have accused Bannon and his protege Sebastian Gorka, a cable-news mainstay, of waging a concerted campaign to minimize the national security adviser's influence".
