Arturo Novoa, 31, and Katrina Layton, 34, were charged with abuse of a corpse.

A man allegedly stored his girlfriend's body in a freezer while his new girlfriend took over her identity by moving into her home and using her credit cards.

The homeowners allegedly had no idea there was a body inside inside the freezer until they became suspicious and eventually cut the padlock.

Novoa and Layton are both in the Mahoning County jail on $1 million bond following their arraignments Monday in municipal court.

Authorities suspect the female body is a missing woman named Shannon Graves who was last seen alive in February and was the girlfriend of Novoa.

Graves once dated and lived with Novoa, who claimed that she left him for another man.

Layton and Novoa have been charged with the abuse of a corpse, which was discovered on Saturday in several bags inside the freezer by Novoa's landlord's wife. Evidence that supported this presumption included Novoa being caught using Graves' vehicle and Graves' cell phone being in possession of Novoa's new live-in girlfriend, Layton.

Youngstown Prosecutor Dana Lantz says Graves' former boyfriend was living in her apartment with another woman.

Debbie DePaul, Graves's sister, told WFMJ that Novoa and Graves were dating at the time of the disappearance. They're awaiting official identification and information on the cause of death. She was listed as missing on the OH attorney general's website.

'(They) basically, assumed her life and her belongings'.

Police were immediately alerted and recovered the frozen remains, kept in "more than one bag", according to the complaint.

The body was taken to the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office for forensic testing. According to WKBN, police think the body, which has not been officially identified, was moved from Youngstown to Campbell.
