Hasn't Jaguar just launched the F-Pace? Before that, the XE showed other compact saloons how it's done. It will join the larger F-Pace and all-electric I-Pace in the Jaguar line-up. No, it's not an electric auto ─ that is the I-Pace.
On the inside, the E-Pace is swathed in premium upholstery and quality materials. Both D150 and D180 auto variants have Carbon dioxide emissions of 147g/km, with 162g/km for the D240.
It might be compact, but beneath that suspiciously impractical-looking tailgate is an 806mm long luggage bay with space for 577 litres of cargo, and a quick sit in the back seat indicated adequate leg and head room for a pair of 182cm adults.
Jaguar says its United Kingdom factories are close to capacity so it has struck up a partnership with engineering and manufacturing specialist Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria to build the E-Pace.
This baby is all set to compete with the likes of BMW X1. While the E-Pace is assertive in appearance, it does not portray an aggressive look.
On the inside, there is a new dashboard layout on offer, though certain bits and pieces have been borrowed from the F-Pace.
Created to combine practicality and sports vehicle dynamics, Jaguar's second SUV model will be priced from just under $39,000 in the U.S. You can have up to 21-inches of metal, in fact, which is substantially larger than the standard 17-inchers. Perhaps Brexit is part of the reason, but JaguarLand Rover's official line is that its United Kingdom facilities are close to capacity.
The E-Pace will be built in Austria by Magna Steyr under contract and at a plant in China that will supply the Chinese market.
The E-Pace will also be the first front-wheel-drive Jaguar to go on sale since the X-Type saloon, that ceased production in 2009. That said, the SUV will be offered in both front and all wheel drive options.
In a bid to attract digital-savvy and majority conquest sales (80%) a ten-inch screen Touch Pro infotainment system is standard across the range as are five USB points - one for every potential occupant - plus a 4G Wi-fi hot spot for up to eight devices.
With practicality for modern life in mind, there are four USB ports, a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices and storage specifically created to hold phones or music players. The vehicle features a front wheel drive setup which is another first time since the time of the X-Type.
The E-Pace sits below F-Pace and the upcoming I-Pace electric SUV.
Stiff suspension bushes and anti-roll bars help keep things flat.
The five-passenger E-Pace is powered by Jaguar Land Rover's Ingenium 2.0-liter gasoline engine available in 246- and 296-hp variants.
Four-cylinder petrol engines will be available with 249PS or 300PS producing 365Nm and 400Nm of torque respectively.
But that's going to be for an entry-level FWD, E-Pace. Their 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 7.0 and 6.4 seconds, respectively. This will reach 60mph in 9.5 seconds and has a top speed of 124mph.
