Facebook Messenger is introducing adverts

Facebook says all advertisers can soon buy ads inside Messenger

Facebook brings display ads to Messenger

Facebook has announced that it will now display ads on the Home tab of its Messenger app. Today we're pleased to announce the global beta expansion of Messenger ads.

According to the Facebook official website, there are 1.2 billion users now active with Messanger, and this creates an opportunity for the marketers to expand the reach of their ads campaigns.

The company said that ads will show up on your home tab of the app, and users can click on the ads to connect with the advertiser either via chat or by taking them directly to the product's website.

"[Advertising is] not necessarily everything, but it's definitely how we're going to be making money right now", Chudnovsky told VentureBeat.

The space represents some of the last remaining untapped real estate for advertising as Facebook works to keep up its constant growth without smothering its users. There are "other business models" under consideration, he says, but they all tie into ads.

Facebook Messenger has become an app for many users to message their friends, instead of using the traditional SMS method.

In a world populated by ad-blocking through browsers, segregated apps such as Facebook's and Twitter's have remained isolated from the trend, and a place toguarantee eyeballs on ads for marketers, aided by Facebook's wealth of user data and advanced targeting.

Although the home screen ads are supposed to be dynamic, some are just simply too big and takes up nearly two-thirds of the screen.

It is not known whether people will welcome the updates user experience involving ads. Facebook had confirmed that they will soon roll out home screen advertisements on the Messenger app.

Facebook Messenger ads will only feature single image and carousel advertisements at the moment, though Facebook is testing video for future releases/updates.

Lastly, "Sponsored messages" will allow businesses to re-engage with people who have previously started conversations with them. The businesses will also have the option to send paid messages to users. If you don't like them, you can always try Facebook Messenger Lite which doesn't seem to have the ads in there. Facebook has already completed its initial pilot program which happened in Australia and Thailand back in January of this year.
