NBA free agency: Pistons reportedly renouncing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

REPORT: Pistons renouncing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, making him a UFA

After trading for guard Avery Bradley on Friday mourning, the Detroit Pistons announced they have renounced the rights of guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Caldwell-Pope's -1.4 nERD would position him 5th among Lakers players now locked in for the 2017-18 season.

The Pistons' move indicates they are preparing for next summer when Bradley will become a free agent. Here's a team that had hard-capped itself, even with Caldwell-Pope still on the restricted free agent market.

The former top-10 pick averaged 13.8 points while shooting at a 35 percent clip from three-point range this past season.

The escalation of the Pistons' payroll would've made it impossible for them to match an offer sheet without shedding contracts.

The Nets' salary-cap space is occupied awaiting the Washington Wizards' decision to match a $106.5 million offer sheet to restricted free-agent forward Otto Porter.

With Caldwell-Pope now on his way out of the Motor City, the Pistons are expected to extend a long-term offer to make Bradley a part of the team's core for years to come.

As for Caldwell-Pope himself, he would give the Lakers a young knockdown shooter who would help space the floor and would fit well in the backcourt next to Lonzo Ball. But they signed guard Langston Galloway to a three-year, $21 million contract and acquired Bradley, one of the top two-way guards in the National Basketball Association, from the Boston Celtics for forward Marcus Morris.
