White House: 30000+ Criminal Aliens Apprehended by ICE in 100 Days

ICE arrests 23 immigrants in Orange County, 188 in Southern California

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Fugitive Operations officers make an arrest during a five-day expanded enforcement operation targeting at-large criminal aliens illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives

At the request of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Mexico this week arrested three men from Yemen who were wanted on U.S. charges, a spokesman for Mexico's National Security Commission said on Thursday. Fugitive Operations officers made 188 arrests in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, targeting "at-large criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants, and immigration fugitives", according to a news release from the agency.

The arrests concluded on Wednesday and were led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

"We want to know just how widespread the abuse is", said Carl Takei, an attorney with the ACLU's National Prison Project who works on immigration detention issues.

Officials say nearly 75 percent of those arrested during this period in 2017 are convicted criminals, with offenses ranging from homicide and assault to sexual abuse and drug-related charges. Of those, 43 were drug offenses, 30 DUIs, 27 domestic violence, 15 sex crimes, and 12 battery charges, among others, according to the department. "By taking these individuals off the streets and removing them from the country, we're making our communities safer for everyone". Individuals who have outstanding orders of deportation, or who returned to the country illegally after being deported, are subject to immediate removal.

They also could have been arrested for baseline immigration law violations: crossing the border illegally or overstaying a visa.

At least eight of the almost 200 people arrested during the just-concluded enforcement action could face federal prosecution for re-entry after deportation, ICE officials said.

Arrestees came from a total of 11 foreign nationalities, though Mexico represented the most common at 146 instances.

At least eight individuals may could face up to 20 years behind bars for alleged re-entry to the country after deportation.

Manda Walters, a community relations officer from ICE's Chicago office, said the agency follows a specific protocol while carrying out its duties like any other law enforcement agency.

The majority of the arrests, 93, were made in Los Angeles County, with others arrested in five surrounding counties, including Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura.

"The same data shows that numerous non-sanctuary jurisdictions saw a higher increase in ICE arrests under Trump policies than did areas with major sanctuaries".

The largest increase in arrests during Trump's first 100 days compared to the same period in 2016 occurred in Dallas, which saw an increase of 2,383 arrests.

Those not being criminally prosecuted will be processed for removal from the country.
