While Facebook continues to aggressively copy its staple features, Snapchat is busy creating new ones. You can create a story and invite other friends to add their snaps. Snapchat said the custom Stories update is rolling out and should be available by Wednesday.
Instagram'sLocation Stories will appear on Explore tab (left), and both Location and Hashtag Stories will appear atop search results.
Earlier this month, in its first earnings report as a publicly traded company, Snap posted user growth that was slower than projected and said it was betting on new features to drive adoption of its application.
As with traditional Stories, the Story will appear on the Stories page and disappear if no one has contributed in the past 24 hours. When users browse stories attached to particular locations, they gain access to data about what's going on in those places.
Incidentally, Instagram chose to introduce the new types of stories on the same day that Snapchat announced custom stories, which you can find out more about here.
Before you embark on your Instagram journey, you should read some helpful tips about how to use the the feature to its fullest potential. If your story is added, you will see a line at the top of your stories viewer list showing how many people saw it in the larger story.
Eliminating humans is certainly a faster approach to content curation, but there are potential trade-offs, like a delay in catching inappropriate posts that make it into Instagram's new Stories collections. You can also choose to "geofence" the Story around a certain location (about a block in circumference) - to allow either only friends or "friends of friends" within the geofence to add to or view the Story.
Searching for a hashtag can now bring you even more Stories.
