Billboard Music Awards: Céline Dion gives 'Titanic' performance

Being a part of classic like 'Titanic' a big honour: Celine

Celine Dion performed her classic My Heart Will Go On, at the Billboard Music Awards 20 years after the song was a chart topper. Once known for her shocking performances of twerking and dangling naked from a wrecking ball, the singer performed the slow-burning love song "Malibu", without much of her signature in-your-face sexiness.

Céline was the definition of poise and grace throughout the performance in an elegant white dress, as she hit all the big runs effortlessly.

After the performance, Dion waved to the cheering crowd.

During the performance, Titanic's most emotional scenes played in the background.

And with that, Miley sang her new single with a country swagger - and ended the song no longer being able to hold back the emotion of the moment.

The 30-year-old actress was seated alongside a star-studded list of musicians for the ceremony at the T-Mobile Arena - but her personal highlight of the evening was getting to meet Celine, who she subsequently described as her "idol". But the deaths of Dion's longtime manager and husband and her brother just two days apart previous year surely give the song another layer of meaning for her. As the story goes, James Cameron, director of Titanic didn't want to have the song as a theme to his film but Angélil convinced Dion to record it despite Cameron's rejection. After he heard the recording, Cameron chose to keep it at the end.

Though "My Heart Will Go On" became a resounding success, that doesn't mean it is - or was - universally beloved.
