Caitlyn Jenner made headlines a couple of years ago when she announced that she would be transitioning, since then however, she has not spoken often in interviews about the gender reassignment surgery she underwent.

The Associated Press reports that now the name is too "controversial". Among the most popular forms of the name, Caitlin peaked first, in 1988, followed by Katelyn and Katelin in 1993, Kaitlin in 1995, Caitlyn and Katelynn in 1998, and Kaitlyn, the commonest of the bunch, in 2000.

This was an especially rough blow for the two C versions of the name, both of which hovered around 600 on the 2015 list of 1,000 most popular baby names. Laura Wattenberg, founder of BabynameWizard.com told the AP that the name had already been declining in popularity.

"The surgery was a success, and I feel not only wonderful but liberated", she wrote in her book of the "complex" procedure.

The book details her life pre- and post-transition, in which Jenner reveals that her male body left her with a profound sense of "loathing and disgust".

Asked why she waited until she was 65 to transition, the former Olympic decathlete said: "For a good reason - I had a lot of living to do".

"It's about what's here", she said, pointing to her head.

However, Caitlyn urged families to support their loved ones who identify as transgender.

She continued: "Pronouns are always very interesting, I have a couple of the little ones who call me Boom-Boom".

The 67-year-old, a noted Republican, voted for Trump in the 2016 US presidential election but says she was "really upset" that the Trump administration revoked a federal policy instituted by President Barack Obama that allowed transgender students the choice of using either male or female school bathrooms. I'd say I had a lot of distractions in my life, where I just ran from my feelings. He won the [Olympic] Games.
